Twitter bots are stealing social media identities for profit

In October, NBC worked with a group of researchers to buy Twitter bots from Devumi, a social media marketing company. NBC News' Jo Ling Kent reported that for just $25, anyone can get a message retweeted thousands of times by a small army of sketchy and bogus profiles and bots.On Sunday, The New York Times reported that it investigated the same company and found that Devumi had a stockpile of over 3.5 million automated accounts it sold over and over again to its customers. Those customers included a celebrity chef, actor John Leguizamo, and even Twitter board member Martha Lane Fox.At least 55,000 of the bogus accounts copied the photos, names, and hometowns of legitimate users, making only slight tweaks. For instance, change an "i" to an "l" in the profile name, a kind of "social media ...

Reading Your Audience: How to Incorporate Psychology into Social Media Marketing

Social Media Marketing
Over the past decade, social media has become the domain where much of the world’s buzz takes place. By 2021, the number of users across the globe is expected to surpass the 3 billion mark.In addition to all the people talking, sharing, liking, and posting all over the place, eMarketer estimates that 90% of businesses currently use social media for marketing purposes, too. Through all this racket, it can seem like an impossible feat to post content that customers actually pay attention to.Want to hear some good news? |1 hour agoThe world of social has changed dramatically over the past few years. What started as a simple means for brands to communicate in a one-way, “broadcast” fashion to consumers has evolved into a multidimensional web of platforms and immersive media channels that make it easier than ever to engage with consumers in almost every way imaginable. One part of this new social media dynamic is customer service. The customer changed that entire

Why top social media experts say Facebook's News Feed change is no big deal

Social Media Marketing

The responses I saw there fell into two consistent groups: page owners and publishers (PANIC!) and trusted social media experts/influencers/consultants (Stay Calm and Keep on Posting!).Why are the experts not panicking? More on that below, but first let’s cover the broad picture of what the change is.Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg announced on January 11 that he was ordering a major change in “how we build Facebook.” Instead of focusing on surfacing “relevant content” for users, Facebook will now focus on “helping you have more meaningful social interactions.” Adam Mosseri, the head of News Feed for Faceboo

Social Media Posts Don't Matter

|6 days agoBrands wisely investing in influencer marketing may be stupidly short-sighted when it comes to measuring the actual value of what they’re buying. Unfortunately for marketers, the vast majority of approaches to measuring the value of earned media and influencer programs are seriously limited by a focus on the post, as opposed to the content. It’s critically important that any brand budgeting for visual content, social media marketing or influencer programs has a clear window into the return on that investment—the earned media value it is producing.I’m a huge believer that marketers need to see all of the content related to a brand—not just how many times a logo appears. However, most social media monitoring and content marketing platforms are really blinkered and only look at i

A great guest post by Isabella Rossellini giving great tips on how to improve your social media marketing strategy.Social media marketing plans can decide the future of a business and a brand. As the technologies advance, the boundary between social media marketing and mainstream marketing is becoming more blurred than ever.
