New look Wildcats not lacking any motivation headed into the season – KAKE

MANHATTAN, Kan. (KAKE) –

In 22 days, Kansas State kicks off their 2019 season against Nicholls State. and when this team hits the field at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, they will not be short on motivation.

Especially after finishing the 2018 season 5-7 and missing out on a bowl berth.

“If you were doing something in practice, you know some guy getting all high and mighty or something someone could easily go, guys we went 5-7 last year,” said Kansas State senior wide receiver Dalton Schoen. “A lot of times in our summer workouts we’d be running, it’s hot no one wants to keep going, all it takes is for me or one of the leaders to step up and say guys we didn’t finish any games last year. We let three, debateably four games slip away in the 4th quarter.”

“It’s something that I never want to experience again,” said Kansas State junior quarterback Skylar Thompson. “I just try to remind those guys of that. They’ve done a great job of buying in. I think this football team is hungrier than we’ve ever been since I’ve been here.”

If K-State is to increase their win total, it’ll start on defense where the ‘Cats are going to be pushed to the limit every week by the high scoring offenses of the Big 12.

“They score when you allow them to score. They score when you do things to put them in situations to score. They understand how to prevent big plays,” said Kansas State defensive backs coach Van Malone. “It’s just a matter of learning our scheme and getting the team to learn our language and applying those same principles that these guys have been trained with over the years.”
