STERLING – Self Help Enterprises must pay 215 current and former employees with disabilities nearly $574,000 in back wages as part of its agreement to resolve issues uncovered by a U.S. Department of Labor investigation. The agency, which has a sheltered workshop, learned in April 2018 that it would lose its certification, which allows the organization to pay disabled workers less than the $7.25 federal minimum hourly wage. The Department of Labor determined that Self Help failed to pay disabled employees correctly as required by Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act and attempted to mislead and obstruct its investigation by concealing information and hiding work that had not been properly time-studied. Florida Sen. Janet Cruz officially launched her online campaign this week to help put water filters in Hillsborough County public schools to avoid potential lead contamination. The effort is part of Cruz’s “Get the Lead Out” initiative launched last month. Her campaign launched a Facebook and Twitter page to support efforts as well as a donation website where donors can adopt a water fountain, an entire school, five schools or ten schools. The donate page has three suggested donation levels. For $30, donors can sponsor a single water fountain. A $1,500 donation adopts a school, $5,000 adopts five schools and $10,000 adopts ten schools. Cruz hopes to raise $250,000 to purchase and install water filters at the 136 Hillsborough public schools constructed before 1986

By: Chris Medland | 4 hours ago Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto is using the performance of Red Bull as a motivating factor for his own team as both look to close the gap to Mercedes. Max Verstappen climbed through the field to win the Austrian Grand Prix and then looked to have a pace advantage over the Ferraris at Silverstone before being hit by Sebastian Vettel. That opened the door for Charles Leclerc to take the final spot on the podium behind the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, and Binotto says the recent performances of Red Bull are pushing Ferrari to improve quickly. “They certainly improved, and if I look at the last two races as a matter of fact they won in Austria and they have been very competitive (at

ARLINGTON -- Corey Perry has erased last season from his mind. Perry -- who signed a one-year, $1.5-million contract with the Stars two weeks ago -- only played 31 games for Anaheim last year, missing four months after surgery on his right meniscus and MCL during the preseason. When he returned, Perry put up career-low numbers for goals (six) and assists (four). His 14:49 of average ice time was his lowest since he was 21 years old.The injury and the production led Anaheim to buy out the remaining two years on Perry's contract that carried a $8.625 million cap hit. He landed with the Stars, who could pay Perry an additional $1.75 million in bonuses based on games played and number of playoff rounds."You never want to hear that, that you're no longer needed or wanted," Perry said Wed...
HOOVER, Ala. -- Georgia's head coach doesn't believe there will be any issue when it comes to his team's motivation in 2019. The Bulldogs have gone 24-5 over the past two seasons, a mark that is cause for excitement but with 13 straight wins over SEC Eastern Division opponents and a pair of league title game appearances in two years (one SEC championship), it stands to reason that the regular season might lose some of its luster. That won't be the case according to Kirby Smart. After finishing the 2018 season with two consecutive losses, both in post-season play, his team should be locked and loaded when they travel to Vanderbilt for the season and conference opener on August 31. "It's easy. You turn it on and see," Smart said Tuesday at SEC Media Days. "It's more than the fourth quarte...
