Hero (Heroe) by Jose Lozano. Courtesy Laguna Art Museum What struck me right from the get-go about the 16 serigraphs of Laguna Art Museum’s (LAM) upstairs exhibit is how immediate and vibrant each one looks. All pulled from its permanent collection, they were purchased by the museum in 1992 from Self Help Graphics & Art (SHG) in an acquisition of 170 screenprints by 90 artists. Yet the works in “Self-Help Graphics: 1983-1991” look as if they could have been made yesterday. Each radiates an unmistakable energy: the colors vibrate against one another, layered images multiply meanings through disrupted grids, and many kinds of borders are crossed. The more I learned about SHG the more I understood this timelessness. The Boyle Heights art center/print shop has been operating at the inte

We take a look at what three things can help motivate the Carolina Hurricanes through the 2019-20 campaign. The Carolina Hurricanes had plenty of things to motivate them last season. The most prominent thing was when Don Cherry called out Justin Williams and the Hurricanes for the storm surge. He referred to the team as a “bunch of jerks,” as most of you already know. The Hurricanes, however, d
ASSOCIATED PRESS Marketing strategy doesn’t just lay out processes to create new customers and retain existing ones. Directly or indirectly, it can position the organization in the minds of current and future employees. I asked corporate culture consultant Josh Levine, co-founder of CULTURE LABx, to lend his perspective to the ways that marketing strategy can impact employee recruitment and retention. Paul Talbot: How is marketing strategy changing and why? Josh Levine: The most important shift that leading companies are making is away from ‘what you'll get’ and toward ‘the journey you'll join.’ Sure, salary is important, and perks are nice, but people get excited about a big problem they get to help solve. To get attention in a noisy marketplace, leaders ne
The University of North Dakota’s (UND) web presence was much like the Wild West – everyone did whatever they wanted with little oversight. The result: an unorganized and overloaded website. A two-year multi-phased website redevelopment project fixed the major problems, but governance is what will keep the site as fresh and relevant. Before Web Governance Most UND websites were housed in a unified content management system (CMS) and templates were centrally managed by a team of marketing and IT staff. But aside from the well-established CMS, UND’s website was a free-for-all. The site had too much R.O.T. (redundant, outdated and trivial) content. It grew to over 30,000 pages and stored several hundred thousand files that were no longer used. UND had too many CMS users (~500), the vast maj

Instagram influencer engagement is nearing an all time low As social media allows for more people to achieve fame and influencer status, social media quickly has become oversaturated with influencers. It is impossible for audiences to keep u
The Trump Administration’s plans to add a citizenship-related question to the 2020 U.S. Census were halted when the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 5-4 opinion written by Chief Justice John Roberts, temporarily blocked such a question from the Census. And the Trump Administration is now hoping that the question will be added if it can convince Roberts that such a question is justified. But conservative Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin stresses in a new column that the issue remains legally problematic for the president. “President Trump seems to think that by invoking ‘executive order,’ he can make his legal problem disappear,” Rubin declares. “Wrong. The Supreme Court disallowed the question for now and sent it back for the ‘real reason’ for including the question. He
“It’s all about supporting the local teams. Yes, it’s good to support the national team, but this goes beyond supporting the national level, it’s about supporting the pro teams, the clubs and semi-pro teams in your city,” said Legion FC Midfielder Mikey Lopez. Let's block ads! (Why?) Source link
