Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against a popular e-cigarette maker, asking a court to limit what flavors it can sell and ensure underage teens can't buy it. Josh Stein, the top law enforcement official in the traditional tobacco-producing state, said in announcing his lawsuit Wednesday he's the first state attorney general to take the maker of Juul to court.  The Massachusetts attorney general also announced an investigation last year into Juul's sales and marketing. Stein accused Juul's marketing practices of causing an "epidemic" among young people through "unfair and deceptive" marketing practices at a news conference Wednesday. Your web presence can have an impact on your small business but it’s up to you whether that impact is positive or negative.I’m going to tell you something you probably already know: Having a website is crucial to your business. You hear it everywhere, and, at this point, it’s almost common knowledge. I visited a panel a few years back in Washington DC where a representative from Google said that almost 50 percent of all independently owned businesses don’t have a website. It’s almost unheard of with how easy it is to start a site with services like WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Weebly, and Shopify at everyone’s disposal. Owning a website isn’t enough either. You need to maintain and update your site as often as you can just like you need to do with everything else in your business. It s

Sounds to Social Media: How Writing an Audiobook Taught Me Self-Marketing – Information Space – Syracuse University News

Social Media Marketing
A few months ago, in early March, I turned 21. Many people greeted and asked what my plans would be. Of course, I had a standard birthday dinner (my mother even flew from the Philippines and surprised me!) at my favorite Marshall Street restaurant. I wore a sparkly little tiara. But aside from the celebration, I spent the entire week before my special day on my social media outlets. I talked about releasing something a little out of ordinary. An audiobook. In the beginning of February, I started writing an audiobook of prose and poetry with the intention of publishing it on my birthday. After a lot of research and conversations with friends, I published “Ancestral Home” on the day of my birthday. I talked about it all over my Instagram and Facebook, marketing it to my friends and family

Matt Chlodnicki Erik Witsoe In online marketing circles content is king, but entrepreneur Matt Chlodnicki argues that's not strictly true. “Content that people like is king,” says the founder and CEO of photo contest platform Shuttout that identifies which photos people really like and helps even amateur photographers make more money from their passion. Millions of photos are uploaded to the Internet every day, creating a more competitive environment for those looking to sell their work. At the same time social media has exploded with billions of ‘likes’ of photos. Last year there were 4.2 billion likes on Instagram every single day. Shuttout is tapping into this trend to gather data and add social value to people’s photos. In simple terms, if you can sh

Soulmates.AI's new Social ROI Reporter Measures the Real Value of Social Media Marketing – MarTech Series

Social Media Marketing
Soulmates.AI, an AI-driven martech startup focused on making marketing work for everyone, has launched Social ROI Reporter (SRR), a tool that helps brands and agencies measure the dollar value of social media and influencer marketing campaigns. Competitive solutions only measure social reach and tally the cost of some interactions against systems blind to seasonal, historical and industry variations. Last year, a study on Nike’s Colin Kaepernick campaign suggested the brand earned $43M in ‘media exposure.’ Yet, no methodology showed how the firm arrived at that total. SRR measured that campaign at $8.16M, showing that estimate was inflated by 427%. “Social media marketing is a great way to engage modern audiences, but how can CMOs trust inflated, arbitrary numbers?” asks Eric Burges

Influencers and Social Media Ads Are Most Effective Marketing Tools – Digital Information World

Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing has created a lot of different niches within itself that many people feel like they know best. Certain social media marketing tactics have been proven to be more successful than others, however, and a recent study that was conducted on the efficacy of these tactics and strategies has indicated that social media influencers as well as social ads may be the best ways to get direct sales.According to Episerver's survey, half of all social media users reported that they have clicked on a product after an influencer talked about it, and about one third of these people ended up buying that product. Social media ads (particularly in Instagram and Facebook feeds) have also seen a comparable level of success, although influencers managed to get the top spot in this regard....
