'Fluid' Dutchman: Self-Help Guru, Age 69, Wants to Be Declared 49

Self Help
A Dutch self-help guru is breaking new ground by claiming age is just as fluid as gender—and he isn’t worried about offending the transgender community. Emile Ratelband of Arnhem, southeast of Amsterdam, is asking a court in his hometown to change his age legally from 69 to 49 because he feels like he is in his 40s, The Washington Post reported. Judges heard his case Monday and promised to hand down a verdict in coming weeks. If Ratelband’s request is granted, the court will allow alteration of his birth certificate to say he was born on March 11, 1969, rather than March 11, 1949. Ratelband told the Post that his request is no different than requests to change one’s name or gender assigned at birth. “Nowadays, in Europe and in the United States, we are free...

The application of the right technology improves the quality of decision making and detailing processes. As the number of outputs and customer characteristics have increased, companies are faced with huge volumes of both structured and unstructured data. Moving the Motivation Meter

Motivation
Two novel drugs kickstart motivation in rats suffering from apathy and a lack of oomph, UConn researchers reported at the Society for Neuroscience conference in San Diego on Nov. 5. Apathy steals the excitement from life. It’s a feeling of being fatigued, uninterested, and emotionally flat. People who suffer from apathy find it hard to exert effort, and life can seem tremendously difficult. One of the primary symptoms of depression, it’s also a side effect of certain medications. It can also be caused by inflammation from an infection or chronic disease such as multiple sclerosis. Apathy and lack of motivation are hard to treat. Prost: Hamilton will need new motivation

Motivation
With five World titles to his name, Alain Prost questions whether Lewis Hamilton will have the same level of motivation next season needed to beat Ferrari to the title. Hamilton clinched his fifth Drivers’ Championship last time out in Mexico, securing fourth place on the day to take an unassailable lead over Sebastian Vettel in the standings. In doing so he became only the third driver in the sport’s 60-plus years to win five or more World titles. But while Hamilton already has his sights set on getting “close” to Michael Schumacher’s seven titles and 91 wins, Prost questions where the motivation will come from. “We all thought it was impossible,” Prost, a four-time World Champion, told Motorsport.com. “I always said this year, if you are...

By Geoff Baker / The Seattle Times TUKWILA — Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei wasn’t about to end what could be his team’s final practice of the year Wednesday dwelling on near misses. Frei instead deflected questions about finishing runner-up to Zack Steffen of the Columbus Crew in MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting and focused on how his team can survive this playoff round. The Sounders need at least a goal Thursday night against the Portland Timbers and for Frei to keep balls out of his net to advance from a Western Conference semifinal they trail 2-1 after Sunday’s opening leg. “I think we’re ready,” Frei said. “We had a couple of good sessions.
